Tipton Library Memorial has C. Cotterill recorded, as does the 'Staffordshire Roll of Honour' which also says he served with the Worcesters. The Soldier's Papers for Charles Ernest Thomas shows that he was born Charles Ernest Thomas but was brought up to believe that his name was Charles Cotterill. He only found this out when he was getting married, and presumably asked for his Birth Certificate. He informed the Worcestershire Regiment of his original name and then used that name.

This commemoration was presumably put forward by his mother, Mrs Jane Cotterill.
